Interns and Volunteers

Intern/Extern/Clerk and Volunteer Opportunities

The Tulsa County Public Defender’s office relies on volunteers and paid interns in its juvenile, civil, and criminal divisions. Generally, people start as volunteers and become paid interns as positions become available. All interns and volunteers will work under the direction of an attorney or support staff. We need serious, dedicated people with a minimum of 10 hours a week to serve in some of the following capacities:

  • File preparation
  • Office support
  • Client interviews
  • Civilian witness interviews
  • Courtroom observation
  • Calling clients who are one probation for status checks
  • Providing clients with information on housing, employment, mental health, and substance abuse resources (training is provided)
  • Errands to the jail and courthouse
  • Miscellaneous other tasks as needed

All volunteers and intern must sign a confidentiality pledge. Our office has no “busy work.” Every task contributes in its own way toward fighting for the rights and freedom of our clients.
