Michelle C. Huffman has been a lawyer for children for over 20 years. She earned her law degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1994. After law school, she practiced with an Oklahoma City firm until she relocated to Tulsa in 1996. After moving to Tulsa, Ms. Huffman joined the Tulsa County Public Defender’s Office and began representing clients in deprived, delinquent, mental health, adoption, and guardianship matters. Ms. Huffman tried many cases, both jury and non-jury, before the late Honorable Judge Carlos Chappelle. She successfully argued cases on appeal before the Oklahoma Supreme Court, lectured on child testimony, was a trainer for CASA and obtained a block grant for the Office with the U.S. Department of Justice.
Ms. Huffman made the decision to stay home with her two young daughters in 2002. She returned to work in 2005 at Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma advising clients in juvenile matters, divorce, custody, adoption, guardianship, expungement, and landlord tenant issues. Ms. Huffman decided to go into solo private practice in 2010. Her practice included the representation of clients in criminal, civil matters, including adoption and guardianships, and clients in juvenile court. She also served as a panel lawyer for Oklahoma University Physicians as defense counsel, acted as guardian ad litem, and volunteered as an attorney for Tulsa Lawyers for Children. In January of 2015, Ms. Huffman was offered the opportunity to return to the Tulsa County Public Defender’s Office and once again pursue her passion of representing children. Ms. Huffman currently represents children in deprived and mental health cases in the Juvenile Division of the Office. Ms. Huffman is admitted to practice before the Oklahoma Supreme Court and the U.S. Western and Northern Districts of Oklahoma. Ms. Huffman also volunteers and serves on the Board for Oklahoma Alliance for Animals promoting adoption, rescue and reduction of pet overpopulation.
